Hawks News · The 67th Annual Sportsmanship Dinner, Feb 22nd

The 67th Annual Sportsmanship Dinner was held virtually this year.  It was held on Monday, Feb 22nd at 6:00pm in the HAST gym.
The dinner is typically held prior to the IHSAA boys’ basketball tournament.  This is a Calumet Region tradition.  The teams dress up and attend the event together.  30 teams participated virtually, including HAST.  The professionally produced broadcast was shown in the gym, after a nice catered dinner.  Thank you to the sportsmanship committee for their generous contribution towards the dinner.  This year’s keynote speaker was the voice of the Chicago Bulls, Chuck Swirsky.
Our team enjoyed the dinner, the broadcast and fellowshipping with each other before their final week of regular games and the start of sectionals.  We invited our 8th grade players as well so they can share the motivation and get inspired for their high school basketball career.
This was a much needed pause to reflect and also honor our players and coaches.  The following awards distributed:  Most Coachable Athlete – Elias “Papo” Reyes; Best Attitude – Elias Cross; Best Defensive Player of the Year – Fernando Rangel; Hustle Man Award – Elias Reyes; Best Rebounder – Marques Lewis; Best Scorer – David Lopez; Step-Up Award – Camren Gamble; Leadership Award – Marcus Polk.  The following players earned their Varsity letter:  Joshua Adepoju, Elias Cross, Camren Gamble, Marques Lewis, David Lopez, Marcus Polk, Fernando Rangel, Elias Reyes and Brandon Riley.  Thank you to our Head Coach Holcomb, Asst Coach Williams, Asst Coach Powell & our team for a great year!
